At least three people have been killed and several others injured after Israeli airstrikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs, an area known as Dahiyeh, in a renewed escalation linked to ongoing hostilities with Hezbollah.
Lebanon’s Civil Defence Ministry confirmed the casualties on Sunday, saying the strike targeted a residential apartment and left additional victims wounded. State media reported that two people were killed and four others injured in the attack, though other security sources placed the death toll at three.
The Israeli military said it carried out what it described as a “precise strike” on Hezbollah-linked targets in response to rockets allegedly fired from southern Lebanon into northern Israel. Israeli authorities said three projectiles were launched, which they labelled a breach of ceasefire understandings.

In a joint statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military had struck “terrorist infrastructure” belonging to Hezbollah in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district.
Lebanese security officials said the strike involved at least two missiles and appeared to have been targeted at a specific building.
Hezbollah has not immediately issued a detailed response to the latest attack, though the group earlier confirmed firing rockets and drones towards Israeli positions in southern Lebanon.
The escalation comes amid heightened regional tensions, with international actors expressing concern that the violence could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts linked to broader U.S.-Iran negotiations aimed at de-escalating conflict in the region.

U.S. President Donald Trump, reacting to the developments, said the strikes should not have occurred at a sensitive diplomatic moment, warning that continued attacks risk destabilising emerging peace efforts.
Israeli officials, however, maintain that any fire into its territory will be met with force, while Hezbollah insists that its actions are tied to ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
