President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that National Assembly members who emerged victorious in the party’s primaries are granted return tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio appealed on Wednesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the APC National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Ekiti State Governorship Election.
The Senate President is serving as Co-Chairman of the Campaign Council alongside Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani. The council was inaugurated by the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
Addressing party leaders at the event, Akpabio urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to carry National Assembly members along when finalising decisions arising from the recently concluded party primaries.

According to him, some lawmakers are already apprehensive about the outcome of the process and deserve fair consideration.
“National Chairman, when the National Working Committee meets and brings out the final list, ensure that you carry all the National Assembly members along,” Akpabio said.
He noted that while governors and state assemblies have significant influence in their respective states, and the President also has the right to make inputs, those who lost in the primaries should not expect intervention.

Akpabio congratulated lawmakers who secured victory in the primaries and advised those who were unsuccessful to accept the outcome.
“I want to congratulate those who won the primaries and plead with my colleagues, both in the Senate and House of Representatives, that the Senate President, as Chairman of the National Assembly, is saying that you should have done your homework well before going for the primary,” he added.
He expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, saying that once the APC releases its final list of candidates, members would rally behind it.
The Senate President also described his presence at the inauguration as a “total endorsement” of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in office.

Commending the Ekiti governor’s performance, Akpabio said the National Assembly was proud of his achievements and leadership style.
“We are very proud of his achievements. We are very proud of his humility and we are certain of his victory in the election coming on June 20, 2026,” he said.
Earlier, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the Ekiti governorship election, stating that the APC possesses the
