The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to intensify proactive, intelligence-led policing in response to the country’s evolving security challenges.

The charge was delivered on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, during the monthly conference with strategic senior officers held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The meeting brought together Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers to review the national security situation and operational strategies.

The IGP noted that Nigeria continues to face diverse security threats, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder clashes, and cyber-enabled crimes. He stressed the need for improved coordination, strong leadership, and adaptive operational responses to keep pace with emerging criminal tactics.

He urged officers to remain proactive and intelligence-driven, emphasising that effective policing requires anticipation of threats rather than reactive responses.

Disu also disclosed operational gains recorded since the last conference in May 2026. According to him, the Police Force arrested eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects, and 42 suspected cultists within the period under review.

He further stated that 88 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition, and 28 stolen vehicles were recovered in coordinated operations across the country.

The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening internal security and protecting lives and property nationwide through sustained operational reforms and inter-agency collaboration.
