The Plateau State Government has formally filed criminal charges against five suspects arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the deadly March 2026 attacks in Angwa-Rukuba, Jos North, intensifying efforts to bring perpetrators of recurring violence to justice.

The charges, filed on Friday by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Philemon Audu Daffi, follow weeks of heightened tension after the President’s recent visit to Plateau, where he assured affected communities that justice would be pursued.

Four of the suspects Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, also known as Auwalu Dogo, Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Yaroro are facing counts of criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism. Prosecutors allege that the defendants were involved in planning and financing the March 28, 2025 attack in Farin Gada, which left more than 30 people dead.

A fifth suspect, Adamu Isa Alhassan, is being tried separately on multiple charges, including culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful dealing in ammunition.

Security sources confirmed that the DSS apprehended the suspects in a series of operations conducted between April 3 and April 10, 2026, as part of a broader crackdown on networks linked to the violence.

Reacting to the development, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the killings as “genocide, not a farmer-herder conflict,” reiterating his administration’s position that the attacks were coordinated and targeted. He stressed that “Plateau must move forward,” even as he dismissed calls to suspend public activities in the wake of the violence.

During his visit earlier this month, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with victims and community leaders, pledging that ongoing federal interventions would “help restore lasting peace” in the state.
