The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s security challenges will be overcome under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even as concerns persist over rising cases of terrorism and kidnapping in parts of the country.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, stated this on Thursday during the flag-off of the Gombe–Biu Super Highway, a major section of the 700-kilometre Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri dualisation project.
Umahi said ongoing infrastructure projects across the country demonstrate the administration’s commitment to national development and unity, describing the works as part of President Tinubu’s broader economic and governance reforms.

According to him, the Federal Government is confident that insecurity, like current economic challenges, will be brought under control as reforms begin to stabilise key sectors.
He argued that Nigeria is already witnessing early signs of stability in the macroeconomy, adding that similar progress will be extended to the security sector.
The minister also cautioned against politicising insecurity, particularly during election periods, stressing that loss of lives under any circumstance should not be trivialised.
He cited major infrastructure projects such as the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Akwanga–Maiduguri corridor as evidence of renewed federal investment in national development.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who also spoke at the event, described the highway project as a significant milestone for the state, noting its importance to agriculture and economic growth.

Other stakeholders, including lawmakers, contractors, and traditional rulers, pledged support for the successful execution of the project and assured cooperation to ensure security during construction activities.
The project is expected to begin within 30 days, according to assurances given by the Federal Ministry of Works.
