Liverpool has ended Arne Slot’s tenure as head coach following a disappointing campaign that saw the Dutch manager fail to sustain the momentum of his title-winning debut season and guide the club only to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.
Slot replaced Jürgen Klopp in 2024 and enjoyed an outstanding first season at Anfield, leading Liverpool to the Premier League crown and raising expectations of continued success under his leadership.
However, his second season proved far more difficult, with the defending champions struggling for consistency and eventually missing out on direct qualification for elite European competition positions until late-season pressure mounted.

Liverpool confirmed the decision in a statement, describing the move as difficult but necessary to ensure continued progress and competitiveness at the club.
The club acknowledged Slot’s contributions, highlighting his role in delivering the Premier League title and navigating a season filled with significant challenges. Nevertheless, officials concluded that a change in leadership was required to maintain Liverpool’s long-term ambitions.
Reports indicated growing frustration among supporters following a run of poor performances that contributed to 19 defeats across all competitions. The mood within the squad was also said to have become unsettled, with several underwhelming displays raising questions about the team’s direction.
Liverpool’s ambitious spending last summer reportedly exceeding $570 million on squad reinforcements failed to produce the expected impact. Several high-profile arrivals struggled to adapt or make decisive contributions during the campaign.
The season was further overshadowed by the loss of Portugal forward Diogo Jota, whose death deeply affected the club and its supporters.
Liverpool have already begun the process of identifying a successor, with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola reportedly among the leading candidates after guiding his side into European competition.

For Slot, the dismissal brings a short but eventful spell at Anfield to an abrupt end, marked by the highs of championship success and the disappointment of an unsuccessful title defence.
