Human rights activist and political figure, Aisha Yesufu, has dismissed reports suggesting that she withdrew from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial race under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement shared via her verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Yesufu clarified that she did not step down from the contest, insisting that she remained active throughout the party’s primaries.

She explained that her involvement in politics was driven by strong personal convictions aimed at promoting meaningful change, adding that citizens must move beyond criticism and actively participate in the political process to influence outcomes.

According to her, she fully understood the realities of Nigeria’s political landscape before entering the race, noting that value-driven candidates often face significant challenges in systems that are not always merit-based.

Yesufu stressed that she did not abandon advocacy for politics, but rather carried her advocacy principles into the political space.

She also maintained that her campaign remained focused and credible, highlighting strong grassroots engagement and what she described as genuine community support built outside traditional political structures.

“I did not quit, I did not drop out of the race,” she stated, reaffirming her commitment to the process.

The activist further noted that while she is aware of the limitations within the political system, she chose to remain consistent with her principles and avoid compromising her values during the primaries.
