The Nigerian Army has dismissed a publication alleging that an individual identified as Haruna Garba Gololo, also known as Garus Gololo, is a retired Nigerian Army General.

In a disclaimer issued on Tuesday, the Army said the report, published by Sahara Reporters and titled “Retired Nigerian Army General Arrested in Abuja After Criticising Senate President Akpabio Over 2027 Comments,” was false and misleading.

The Army stated categorically that the individual in question is neither a serving nor retired personnel of the Nigerian Army and has never served in any capacity within the institution.

According to the statement, the portrayal of the individual as a retired General is inaccurate, capable of misleading the public and undermining institutional credibility.

The Army urged media organisations to exercise due diligence in verifying information relating to the Armed Forces, stressing the need for accuracy, fairness, and responsible journalism.

It also called on relevant media platforms to correct the misrepresentation and prevent the spread of misinformation.

Reaffirming its position, the Nigerian Army said it remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity in line with its constitutional mandate.
