The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has described the fight against corruption as a generational responsibility that goes beyond patriotism.

Olukoyede stated this on Monday in Abuja while addressing postgraduate students of the University of Jos who paid a study visit to the Commission.

Speaking through the Head of Media and Publicity, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC Chairman said the future of coming generations depends on Nigeria’s ability to decisively tackle corruption.

“For us, fighting corruption is not just about enforcing the law, not just a patriotic duty, it is a generational obligation,” he said.

He urged students to see themselves as key stakeholders in the anti-corruption campaign, encouraging them to become change agents in their various communities.

Olukoyede also called on Nigerians to collectively take responsibility in the fight against corruption, stressing that it is essential to securing a better future for the country.

During the engagement, EFCC officials also sensitised the students on cybersecurity, explaining that it involves the protection of computers, mobile phones, and other electronic devices from unauthorised access and cyber threats.

An EFCC official, Inspector IE1 Kayode Eniola, outlined aspects of cybersecurity including network security, application security, information security, cloud security, and cyber forensics, noting that they all require careful handling of personal digital devices.

The Head of the EFCC Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Assistant Commander Aisha Mohammed, also reiterated the Commission’s mandate of prevention, investigation, and prosecution of financial and economic crimes.

She explained that the EFCC carries out preventive activities through public enlightenment and partnerships with educational institutions, professional bodies, transport unions, and other organisations.

She added that the Commission remains committed to intensifying the fight against corruption and financial crimes across the country.
