Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has expressed regret over how she managed her prize money, saying she spent a significant portion of it supporting family members instead of investing.
Phyna disclosed a recent livestream, where she reflected on her financial decisions after emerging as the winner of the reality show in 2022.
She said she was inexperienced at the time and did not receive proper financial guidance on how to manage the N100 million prize package, which included N50 million in cash and N50 million in prizes from sponsors.
According to her, most of the money was spent on family obligations, including settling debts and providing basic amenities such as boreholes for relatives.
“The mistake I made was using my Big Brother Naija prize money to support family members instead of investing it,” she said.
Phyna added that her family members frequently made financial demands on her and offered little or no advice on investment or wealth management.
She said tensions began when she started declining requests due to financial strain, noting that this led to disagreements and public criticism from some relatives.
“But now that the money has finished, I’m the only one facing the reality alone,” she lamented.
The reality star said her experience has taught her hard lessons about financial discipline, family pressure, and the importance of investment planning after sudden wealth.
