Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State on Saturday as the state holds its governorship election.
Davido made the claim in a post on his verified X account, saying he had been informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow; this won’t happen. Every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point in time,” he wrote.
The allegation came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as part of security measures for the governorship election.
The restriction followed the deployment of thousands of police officers and other security personnel across the state.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign.
Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term in the election, alongside candidates including the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and others.
Davido’s allegation generated reactions online, with some users linking the reported attempt to stop him to the general movement restriction announced by security agencies.
Others, however, raised concerns over whether the singer was being specifically targeted because of his political affiliation.
Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, dismissed Davido’s claim as dramatic, arguing that the movement restriction was a general security measure announced ahead of the election.
Ahmad maintained that the restriction applied across Osun State and was intended to support the peaceful conduct of the poll.
He added that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt individuals from complying with lawful security measures introduced during elections.
