The Nigerian Medical Association, Akwa Ibom State branch, has directed doctors across the state to continue the ongoing industrial action declared following the alleged assault and intimidation of medical personnel by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the association said the National Officers’ Committee of the NMA was fully aware of the incident and had instructed that the protest actions should continue until justice is served and appropriate measures are taken.

The association described the incident as an attack on the dignity, safety and professional integrity of doctors, stressing that members must remain united and resolute in defending the medical profession.
According to the statement signed by the Assistant Secretary of NMA Akwa Ibom, Dr Unyime Ndoh, all doctors in the university system have been directed to suspend lectures and academic activities as part of the strike action.
The directive also extends to doctors working at the University of Uyo Health Centre, St. Luke’s Hospital, missionary hospitals, Hospitals Management Board facilities, private hospitals and other healthcare institutions across the state.
The association maintained that resolutions reached during congress remain binding on all members regardless of cadre or place of practice.
The NMA further warned hospital administrators, including Chief Medical Directors, Medical Directors and Medical Superintendents, against intimidating or coercing doctors to undermine the strike.
The association noted that such actions could worsen tensions within the health sector, adding that all members participating in the strike would be fully protected by the union.

The statement emphasised that unity, discipline and solidarity were necessary to preserve the integrity and future of the association, urging doctors to remain steadfast until further directives are issued by the congress and national leadership.
