Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have rescued two kidnap victims during a search-and-rescue operation in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The rescue followed a fighting patrol launched in the early hours of July 26, 2026, after credible intelligence indicated that armed kidnappers had invaded Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages in the Lande Jessi area, abducting two residents and looting food items.
According to the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops carried out targeted operations across the area and successfully rescued the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, who had reportedly been held captive for about a week.
Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swift response, professionalism and resilience, describing the successful operation as a demonstration of the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He said the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to intensify efforts against criminal elements and restore lasting peace across the country.
The commander urged troops to sustain the operational momentum and called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing security operations.
