A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State and aspirant for the Uyo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Elder Aniekan Uko, has withdrawn from the party’s forthcoming primary election.

Uko announced his withdrawal in a statement addressed to the people of Uyo Federal Constituency following a stakeholders’ meeting convened on Tuesday by the leader of the APC in the state and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno.

The meeting, which also had the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, in attendance, focused on consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Uko, his decision to step aside was informed by the “supreme interest” of the party and the state, as well as the appeals and remarks made by party leaders during the meeting.

“As a faithful party man, I have reached the noble decision to step aside from contesting in the upcoming primary election for the Uyo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives,” he stated.

“This decision has not been made lightly but is driven by my unwavering commitment to prioritise the greater good of my party and our dear state above all else.”

The former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly expressed hope that his withdrawal would strengthen unity and progress within the APC in the state.

He also reaffirmed his support for Governor Umo Eno’s leadership and vision for the development of Akwa Ibom State.

“I remain steadfast in my support for His Excellency Pastor Umo Bassey Eno’s leadership and vision, and I trust that under his guidance, our state will continue to flourish,” he added.

Uko, popularly known as “Iboroakam,” prayed for continued peace and progress in the state and thanked his supporters for their understanding and loyalty.
