The Awka and Enugu Zonal Directorates of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reaffirmed their commitment to stronger inter-zonal collaboration, intelligence sharing and operational synergy in the fight against corruption and financial crimes across the South-East region.

This was the focus of a strategic working visit by the Acting Zonal Director of the Awka Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I), Ofen-Imu Atiba Sunday, and members of his management team to the Enugu Zonal Directorate led by the Zonal Director, Commander of the EFCC (CE), Daniel Isei.

During the meeting, both directors deliberated on issues bordering on operational efficiency, logistics support, intelligence coordination, case management and collaborative enforcement strategies.

Speaking during the visit, Sunday appreciated the Enugu Directorate for its support toward the growth and operational stability of the newly created Awka Directorate.

He acknowledged the logistical and operational challenges confronting the Awka office, especially in the areas of manpower, mobility and forensic support, but noted that the directorate had already recorded significant operational achievements within a short period.

“The records achieved within the short period of our operations have been remarkable and have further demonstrated the value of teamwork, mentorship and institutional cooperation,” he said.

“We have enormous intelligence and operational responsibilities before us, but logistics remain a major challenge. This is why collaboration, synergy and mutual support between Awka and Enugu Directorates are very crucial,” he added.

Responding, the Enugu Zonal Director, Daniel Isei, commended the leadership of the EFCC for establishing the Awka Directorate, describing it as a strategic move aimed at strengthening anti-corruption operations in the South-East.

According to him, the creation of the Awka office has reduced operational pressure on the Enugu Directorate while bringing the Commission’s services closer to the people.

“The creation of the Awka Directorate has significantly reduced operational pressure on Enugu and brought the services of the Commission closer to the people. It was both logical and operationally expedient,” Isei stated.

He assured the Awka team of continued support in the areas of joint operations, intelligence coordination, logistics and case management, while emphasising the importance of mentorship and institutional continuity within the Commission.

“Nothing stops both Directorates from carrying out joint operations and intelligence sharing. What is important is our collective commitment to operational efficiency and effective service delivery,” he said.

Isei further urged officers of both directorates to embrace mentorship and capacity building as part of efforts to sustain professionalism, integrity and excellence within the EFCC.

He also advocated flexible administrative arrangements in the transfer and handling of cases between the two directorates where necessary to improve investigation and prosecution outcomes.
