Nigerian Afrobeats star, Asake popularly known as Mr Money has come under intense social media criticism following the release of his latest album, with listeners accusing him of including lyrics interpreted as supportive of President Bola Tinubu.
The controversy centres on a track titled “Amen” from the singer’s newly released project, where he reportedly references Tinubu’s popular political slogan “Emi Lokan” alongside reflections on manifestation and success.

According to reports, one of the lines “Presido sope emi lokan, e dey win election” has sparked widespread debate online, with critics suggesting it amounts to political endorsement at a time of economic hardship in Nigeria.
Shortly after the album dropped, reactions flooded social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), where some users expressed disappointment and threatened to boycott the project. Critics argued that referencing political figures in such a context could be interpreted as taking sides in a deeply polarised national discourse.
However, other listeners defended the artiste, insisting the lyric was being misinterpreted and was instead a metaphorical reference to the power of spoken declarations and belief in success, rather than a political statement.

The album, titled M$NEY, contains 13 tracks and has already generated significant streaming traction, though the controversy surrounding the Tinubu reference has become one of its most discussed talking points.
As of press time, Asake has not issued any official statement addressing the backlash.
