The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Bola Tinubu, has approved 10 major road infrastructure projects across the country, marking one of the largest single-day approvals of highway contracts in recent years.
The approvals, announced on Wednesday, cover strategic highways and bridge reconstructions aimed at strengthening economic connectivity, improving interstate trade routes, and accelerating national infrastructure renewal.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the projects span multiple geopolitical zones and include expressway dualisations, bridge reconstruction, and trans-regional highway development.

Among the flagship approvals is N1.79 trillion for Section 5 of the Sokoto–Badagry Expressway, a 360-kilometre dual carriageway expected to significantly enhance north–south trade corridors.
The Council also approved N1.86 trillion for the extension of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway through Akwa Ibom State, a continuation of the coastal transport spine linking Nigeria’s southern corridor.
In Lagos, N548.98 billion was approved for the full reconstruction of the Carter Bridge, one of the city’s most critical traffic arteries.
For the North-West, N178 billion was allocated for the reconstruction of the 128-kilometre Mando–Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State, while two sections of the Trans-Sahara Highway project were also approved, covering a combined 296 kilometres.
In the South-West, the Council approved N295 billion for the dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road spanning Oyo and Ogun States (56km x2), alongside N101 billion for the Osogbo–Akoda–Bunga Road (59.2km) and N114 billion for the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road (90.9km), both in Osun State.

In the North-East, N1.25 trillion was approved for the Yobe–Gombe section of the highway network, a 125-kilometre dual carriageway aimed at improving regional mobility and security-linked logistics.
The Federal Government described the approvals as part of its broader infrastructure expansion programme targeting key economic corridors nationwide.
