Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Unyime Idem, has announced plans to sponsor selected local government workers on foreign training programmes in India and Japan to enhance service delivery at the grassroots.
Idem announced on Friday while receiving members of the Workers Forum, Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, who paid him a surprise visit at his residence to mark the 2026 International Workers’ Day.
Addressing the workers, the lawmaker said the initiative is aimed at exposing beneficiaries to global best practices in public administration, innovation, and efficient service delivery, which they are expected to replicate in their respective local government areas.

He noted that investing in human capacity development remains one of the most sustainable ways to strengthen governance and improve the quality of public service.
Idem commended the workers for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to grassroots development, assuring them of continued prioritisation of their welfare.
He also urged them to sustain their support for government at all levels and actively participate in the electoral process.
Earlier, the workers, led by the Chairman of the forum, Ukeme Umoren, and Secretary, Inimfon Paschal Etuk, commended the lawmaker for what they described as inclusive and impactful leadership.
They noted that members of the forum have benefited from several initiatives, including foreign training opportunities, a N1 billion family-based empowerment programme, and ICT training schemes.

The forum passed a vote of confidence on Idem and unanimously endorsed him for another term in office, citing his contributions to the development of the constituency.
They also declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno, and other political office holders, pledging to mobilise voters in the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
