Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that the maiden international flight from Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana, will take off on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

In a release issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the government said the development follows Presidential approval for the upgrade of the airport to international status, as well as sustained investments by the administration of Governor Umo Eno to meet required technical and infrastructural standards.

According to the statement, the historic flight will be operated by Ibom Air, with departure from Uyo scheduled for May 2, while the return flight from Accra is slated for Sunday, May 3, 2026.

The government described the development as a major milestone in its efforts to expand aviation capacity, boost international connectivity, and position Akwa Ibom as a hub for tourism and investment.

It noted that while the maiden flight marks the commencement of international operations from the airport, the official inauguration of the new terminal building and full commercial flight schedules will be announced later.

The state government expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the airport’s upgrade, as well as to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for his role in facilitating the project.

It also acknowledged the contributions of past governors of the state in developing the aviation sector, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining growth in the sector for economic advancement.
