Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited (SPFL) has distanced itself from a tragic road accident that occurred on the Calabar–Itu Road on Monday, clarifying that the truck involved in the incident does not belong to or have any affiliation with the company.
In a statement issued by its Media Manager, Aniekeme Finbarr, the company expressed deep sympathy to the victims and their families, describing the incident as “tragic” and extending condolences to those affected.

According to the SPFL, confirmation from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Itam Division indicates that the vehicle involved is not associated with the company. The driver of the truck has reportedly surrendered himself to authorities and is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing.
“While this incident does not involve our operations, our thoughts remain with the victims, and we sincerely hope for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment,” the statement read.
The company also commended the emergency response team at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for their prompt medical intervention in attending to the injury.
SPFL further acknowledged the efforts of Clement Jumbo, the member representing Abak, Eti, and Ekpo in Ika Federal Constituency, praising his role in assisting victims at the scene.

The firm urged members of the public to allow relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Authorities have yet to release full details of the incident as inquiries continue.
