The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on crime and renewed its commitment to strengthening community policing through sustained stakeholder engagement.

This formed the thrust of a high-level stakeholders’ town hall meeting convened on Friday at the Uyo Area Command, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Rilwan Disu, on deepening public trust and collaboration.

The meeting was presided over by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Mohammed Azare, and drew participation from a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including senior police officers, traditional rulers, transport union representatives, market leaders, youth groups, political actors, security agencies, and members of the media.

The engagement, which lasted over four hours, was described as orderly and impactful, with no security incidents recorded.

Addressing participants, CP Azare said the initiative was part of a deliberate strategy to enhance intelligence-led policing, improve information sharing, and foster closer ties between the police and the communities they serve.

He emphasised that security remains a collective responsibility, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.

“Effective policing cannot be achieved without the cooperation of the public. Intelligence-led policing remains the most potent tool in crime prevention and control,” he said, assuring that the Command remains responsive to distress calls.

The Police Commissioner also issued a stern warning regarding political activities in the state, stressing that all rallies, meetings, and public gatherings must be duly communicated to and approved by the police to ensure adequate security arrangements.

He cautioned against unlawful assemblies and acts capable of inciting violence or disrupting public peace, warning that offenders would face decisive action.

On police accountability, Azare encouraged members of the public to report any misconduct by officers through established channels, including the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), reiterating the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and respect for human rights.

The forum also provided an avenue to strengthen collaboration between the police and other security agencies, as well as key community stakeholders, in a coordinated effort to combat criminality.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command assured residents of its operational readiness to maintain law and order across the state, while calling for continued public cooperation in safeguarding lives and property.
