The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in partnership with the Major Energies Members Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), has continued its strategic push to improve petroleum tanker safety with a specialized training programme for Safe-to-Load Desk Officers in Abuja.
The initiative, held on Thursday, forms part of the Corps Marshal’s broader Strategic Engagement framework aimed at strengthening operational standards, enhancing enforcement mechanisms within the downstream petroleum sector.
The training programme is designed to build the technical capacity of personnel responsible for certifying and regulating the safe loading of petroleum tankers nationwide an area widely regarded as critical to reducing road crashes and hazardous incidents involving fuel transportation.
Participants underwent intensive sessions covering key areas such as compliance with safety protocols, advanced risk assessment techniques, and adherence to industry best practices in tanker operations.
The modules also emphasized accountability and the importance of strict regulatory oversight in preventing avoidable disasters on Nigerian highways.
Officials during the training noted that the collaboration between FRSC and MEMAN reflects a growing commitment to multi-stakeholder engagement in addressing road safety challenges, particularly those associated with the transportation of highly flammable products.
Speaking at the event, facilitators highlighted the need for continuous professional development and standardization across all operational levels, stressing that well-trained Safe-to-Load officers play a pivotal role in ensuring that only roadworthy and properly loaded tankers are allowed onto the nation’s roads.
The programme is expected to continue in phases, targeting more personnel across different regions as part of a sustained national effort to improve safety outcomes and reduce tanker-related accidents.
