The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to enhance inter-agency collaboration and operational efficiency through a capacity-building workshop focused on protocol and liaison functions.

The workshop, organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Special Services and Programmes (DSSP), was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites in Abuja.

Declaring the event open, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, emphasized the importance of effective coordination and collaboration among security agencies and international partners in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Represented by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi, the COAS noted that the increasing complexity of joint and multi-agency operations requires enhanced expertise in protocol management, liaison duties, and professional conduct.

In his keynote address titled “Navigating the Complexities of Managing Protocol and Liaison Duties within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment,” Shaibu highlighted the growing scope of the Army’s operational and diplomatic engagements, stressing the need for personnel to adapt to global best practices.

He said the initiative aligns with the Army’s broader transformation agenda aimed at building a more professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

The Army Chief also commended the DSSP for organising the training in collaboration with subject-matter experts, noting that such engagements are vital for fostering synergy, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and enhancing operational effectiveness.

He further acknowledged the continued support of President Bola Tinubu, reaffirming the Army’s loyalty and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security.

In his welcome address, the Chief of Special Services and Programmes, Major General Aminu Garba, reiterated the department’s commitment to continuous professional development. He noted that since its establishment in 2022, the DSSP has prioritised the improvement of protocol and liaison functions within the Nigerian Army.

The workshop featured expert-led lectures and interactive sessions on diplomatic protocol, liaison management, order of precedence, and official etiquette, all aimed at strengthening joint operations and reinforcing public confidence in the Nigerian Army.
