Super Eagles left-back, Bruno Onyemaechi is a doubt for Nigeria’s international friendly against Jordan on Tuesday after temporarily leaving camp to be with his partner following the birth of their first child.
The 26-year-old defender departed the team’s training base in Antalya, Turkey, and was notably absent from the squad’s first training session after their 2-1 victory over Iran.
Onyemaechi confirmed the development on social media, sharing a photo of himself holding his newborn with the caption, “Best gift ever.”
His partner, Portuguese content creator Ines Fontes, had earlier announced the pregnancy in March and confirmed the birth over the weekend with photos from the hospital.
The couple has yet to disclose the baby’s gender.
The Nigeria Football Federation and fans have since extended congratulatory messages, with the official Super Eagles X handle celebrating the new arrival.
Players are often granted short leave following the birth of a child, making Onyemaechi’s availability for the Jordan clash uncertain.
However, head coach Eric Chelle is expected to rely on Zaidu Sanusi, who is fit and ready, to fill the left-back position if needed.
