All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to a reported shooting incident involving ADC members in Edo State, describing the claims as baseless and premature.
In a press statement issued Thursday in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, said the ADC acted irresponsibly by accusing the ruling party before the conclusion of any police investigation.
The ADC had, in a statement dated February 25, 2026, alleged that the APC was responsible for the shooting incident. Reacting, the APC said such accusations undermine due process and portray the opposition party as lacking regard for lawful procedures.
“It is utterly delusional to accuse the APC even before any investigation is carried out by law enforcement authorities,” Morka stated, adding that the ADC’s position suggests it had appointed itself “accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge” in the matter.
The APC further rejected the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism” by the ruling party, describing the characterization as reckless and unjustifiable.
The party said such remarks were insensitive to Nigeria’s ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and the sacrifices of security personnel.
While condemning violence in the political space, the APC called on the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough and expeditious investigation into the Edo incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The ruling party also maintained that it had no involvement in the incident, stating that it remained focused on governance and consolidating what it described as recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers, and Kano states.
The APC expressed appreciation to voters in the affected states for what it termed a vote of confidence in the party and in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
The Edo shooting incident has sparked political exchanges between the two parties, with security agencies yet to release an official report on the circumstances surrounding the event.
