The Kwankwasiyya Movement has warned against what it described as attempts to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing to resist any move capable of undermining Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement, the movement expressed concern over a recent court judgment involving the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the ruling had raised serious questions about the country’s democratic process.

The group noted that the judgment, which set aside an earlier court order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party, had heightened fears that vested interests were seeking to restrict the democratic space ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to the movement, a vibrant multiparty system is essential to democratic governance, warning that any attempt to frustrate the emergence or operation of opposition parties could erode public confidence in the electoral process.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement maintained that it would continue to defend democratic principles and called on relevant institutions to uphold the rule of law, protect political pluralism, and ensure a level playing field for all political actors.

The movement urged Nigerians and stakeholders to remain vigilant in safeguarding the country’s democratic institutions as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
