Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered a Coroner Inquest and Panel of Inquiry into the killings, shootings, injuries and violence reported at Naira and Kobo Junction, Ikire, on August 24.

The panel, chaired by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify victims and examine the roles played by security operatives and other individuals.

It will also determine whether live ammunition or other weapons were used lawfully and investigate the involvement of political actors, transport union members, officials and security personnel.

The panel has been empowered to summon witnesses, obtain police and medical records, inspect relevant locations and recommend prosecution, disciplinary action, compensation and institutional reforms where necessary.

Adeleke has directed that key evidence, including firearms records, communication logs, medical reports, videos and other materials, be preserved for the investigation.

The governor said nobody would be protected because of political connections or status, but stressed that allegations must first be established through credible evidence.

The panel is expected to begin sitting within seven days of its inauguration and submit its report within 30 days of its first sitting.
