The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has objected to the arrangements for the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu’s State Presidential Campaign Council, accusing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s camp of failing to consult the party’s leadership before announcing the event.
The party expressed its dissatisfaction on Thursday, October 22, just hours before the scheduled inauguration of the 344-member campaign council in Osogbo, the state capital.
In a statement issued by the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the party said its leadership only became aware of the inauguration after the proposed membership list was circulated on social media by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

Lawal maintained that an exercise involving the President’s re-election campaign required proper consultation, formal communication and adequate notice to participating political stakeholders.
He described the notice period, which he said was less than 12 hours, as inadequate for an event of such political significance.
According to him, the arrangement could prevent several party leaders and supporters from attending the inauguration.
The controversy followed Wednesday’s announcement by Adeleke’s camp naming prominent politicians from the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord as members of the state campaign council.
Among those listed were former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; APC elder statesman Adebisi Akande; APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru; and former Deputy Senate Minority Leader Iyiola Omisore.
Others included Bola Oyebamiji, Jide Omoworare, Sola Adeyeye and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh.
The campaign structure also included serving and former lawmakers, party executives, political candidates and local government officials from different political parties.

However, Lawal alleged that the composition and announcement of the council without prior engagement could create unnecessary disagreements between the APC leadership and Governor Adeleke, who was appointed the state coordinator of Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
He maintained that the party should have been formally consulted before its officials and other prominent members were included in the proposed structure.
Despite the disagreement, the APC chairman clarified that the party was not opposed to Adeleke’s appointment as the state campaign coordinator.
He acknowledged that cooperation among political groups could support the organisation of Tinubu’s re-election campaign but insisted that such arrangements must follow appropriate procedures.
Lawal also reaffirmed the state chapter’s commitment to the President’s campaign, stressing that its objections concerned the inauguration arrangements rather than the party’s political position.
The council’s inauguration was scheduled for noon on Thursday at the Oasis Event Centre in Osogbo.
However, the APC’s objections have raised questions about coordination among the political groups expected to participate in the campaign structure.
As of the party’s statement, it remained unclear whether the organisers would adjust the inauguration arrangements or proceed as scheduled.
The disagreement highlights emerging organisational challenges surrounding the proposed cross-party campaign council ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
