The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Delta State, Chris Iyovwaye, has pledged to prioritise industrialisation, employment generation and economic development if elected governor in the 2027 general election.
Iyovwaye made the commitment on Friday during a political consultation with Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, Managing Director of Benco Pools, and members of his grassroots movement in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
The meeting formed part of the NDC’s efforts to strengthen its political structures and engage stakeholders ahead of the elections.

The delegation included the party’s Delta North senatorial candidate, Victor Ochei, alongside other candidates seeking legislative positions within Ika Federal Constituency.
Also present were Sylvester Chukwuedo, the NDC candidate for Ika North-East Constituency I, and Ogor Tony-Obuh, the party’s candidate for Ika South Constituency.
Speaking during the engagement, Iyovwaye criticised what he described as the poor management of Delta State’s resources, arguing that successive leadership failures had prevented residents from fully benefiting from the state’s economic potential.
He maintained that industrialisation, supported by practical policies and measurable development targets, could stimulate economic activities, create employment opportunities and improve living standards.

According to him, Delta possesses resources and opportunities capable of supporting greater economic development than currently experienced.
The governorship candidate said the NDC would pursue policies aimed at unlocking those opportunities and encouraging sustainable growth.
Iyovwaye also expressed confidence in the party’s candidates across different electoral positions, including its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
He appealed to Nwachukwu and members of his political movement to support the party’s candidates in the forthcoming elections.
In his remarks, Ochei thanked Nwachukwu for receiving the delegation and recalled an earlier visit to the business leader.
He described the engagement as an opportunity to build political relationships and explore areas of cooperation.
Other candidates at the meeting outlined their commitments to effective legislative representation, grassroots engagement and development across their constituencies.
The NDC’s Delta North Senatorial Chairman, Aaron Ebenuwa, also participated alongside other party officials.
The consultation comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with economic development, employment and public accountability featuring in campaign discussions.
However, Iyovwaye did not announce specific industrial projects, funding arrangements or implementation timelines during the reported meeting.
