Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reportedly approved a further relaxation of the curfew imposed on Lamurde Local Government Area, restricting movement between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily.

The decision was announced in a statement attributed to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, on Friday in Yola, the state capital.

According to the statement, the adjustment followed an assessment of the security situation in Lamurde, where recurring communal clashes had previously prompted restrictions on movement.

The governor reportedly said the restoration of relative calm and improved security conditions made it possible to ease the curfew and allow residents to resume normal activities during the day.

Fintiri commended residents for cooperating with security agencies and complying with earlier restrictions, describing their conduct as important to restoring peace in the affected communities.

He nevertheless warned that the government would not tolerate actions capable of triggering renewed violence or undermining the progress recorded.

The governor directed security agencies to remain vigilant and enforce the revised restrictions while monitoring developments across the local government area.

He also urged traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen peacebuilding efforts and encourage the peaceful resolution of disagreements.

Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that lasting peace required cooperation between residents and security authorities.

Lamurde has experienced repeated outbreaks of communal violence involving the Chobo and Bachama communities, with longstanding disagreements over land and other local issues contributing to tensions.

In March 2026, the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew following renewed clashes that reportedly resulted in deaths and property damage.

The restrictions were intended to prevent further confrontations and enable security personnel to restore order.

The latest reported adjustment would allow residents to conduct business, attend to personal responsibilities and undertake other lawful activities during permitted hours.

However, the nighttime restrictions would remain in force as a precaution against further disturbances.

The governor appealed to community stakeholders to sustain dialogue and avoid provocative actions that could reverse the gains made in restoring stability.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with security personnel and comply with official directives as the government continues to assess the situation.
