The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in its preparations for the 2027 general elections, with its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, criticising opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi over what he described as their failure to present convincing alternatives to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Morka made the remarks during an appearance on Politics Today on Wednesday, following the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

He said the ruling party had begun strengthening its political structures and coordinating campaign activities ahead of the elections.

According to Morka, the APC’s electoral preparations reflect its determination to remain competitive rather than any sense of desperation.

He argued that the party’s performance in previous bye-elections demonstrated the importance of organisation, mobilisation and early preparation.

Morka maintained that the APC does not take electoral contests for granted and would continue working to consolidate its political support across the country.

Addressing the activities of opposition leaders, the APC spokesman accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of concentrating on criticism of Tinubu’s administration instead of clearly explaining their proposed policies and programmes.

He described the opposition figures as spending more time highlighting perceived shortcomings of the government than presenting their own plans for addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

The criticism represents Morka’s assessment of the opposition’s political activities, rather than an established finding about their policy positions.

Morka also dismissed suggestions that the APC’s early campaign preparations indicated political anxiety, arguing that parties seeking electoral success must organise effectively before polling begins.

He said the ruling party remained focused on its preparations and intended to contest the presidential election with the objective of securing another term.

On public confidence in the APC, Morka pointed to the party’s control of the Federal Government and several state administrations as evidence of its electoral support.

He maintained that the party’s previous victories demonstrated its ability to attract voters, while expressing confidence that its organisation and campaign efforts would strengthen its position ahead of 2027.

The statements come as political parties and prospective candidates intensify preparations for the next general elections, with competing claims about governance, public support and policy alternatives expected to feature prominently in the campaigns.
