Two election advocacy organisations, MundX Analytics and Actizens Social Impact Foundation (ASIF), have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate reported discrepancies in electoral records ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The organisations made the demand during a joint press conference in Awka, Anambra State, on Friday, where they announced plans for the 2027 Election Evidence Summit, scheduled for November 30.

The summit will examine how citizens can preserve authentic polling-unit results for possible use in election petitions.

Speaking at the briefing, MundX Analytics representative Martin Uwakwe questioned a reported increase in registered voters at a polling unit associated with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.

According to the organisation’s analysis, the unit recorded 397 registered voters during the 2024 governorship election but appeared with 4,783 voters in INEC’s 2026 preliminary register.

The reported difference of 4,386 voters represents an increase of approximately 1,105 per cent.

Uwakwe urged INEC to provide a documented explanation and called for independent examination of the underlying records.

He also raised concerns about suspicious photographs in the preliminary register, including images suspected to have been generated using artificial intelligence.

INEC has acknowledged irregularities in the register, with its Director of Information and Communication Technology, Lawrence Bayode, attributing some questionable entries to registration officers who had access to the commission’s system.

Bayode confirmed that some photographs were AI-generated, while others resulted from poor registration procedures.

The commission has maintained that the published register is preliminary and subject to verification and correction before final certification.

Meanwhile, ASIF Executive Director Chidi Lucky Kanu called for stronger mechanisms to preserve polling-unit results and improve transparency in electoral dispute resolution.

Kanu also raised questions about records from the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State, urging independent scrutiny of the relevant documents.

He introduced the NGelectionPolls Election Monitor, a citizen-led initiative designed to train non-partisan observers to document polling-unit activities and preserve election records.

The organisations said the November summit would bring together electoral officials, political candidates, legal practitioners, civil society organisations, technology experts and other stakeholders.

Discussions will focus on the authenticity, preservation and legal admissibility of polling-unit evidence.

They urged INEC to respond transparently to identified concerns while encouraging citizens to participate in lawful electoral monitoring.

The allegations presented by the organisations have not been established as findings of electoral malpractice.
