Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has met with former South African President Thabo Mbeki and former Botswana President Ian Khama in Cape Town, South Africa, ahead of his departure to Johannesburg.
Obi said the meeting provided an opportunity to appreciate both leaders for their support and advocacy for peace, unity, and stability across the African continent, especially in the wake of recent immigration-related tensions in the region.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Obi described the two former African leaders as respected statesmen whose contributions to governance and continental development continue to inspire many across Africa.

“Both Mr Khama and Mr Mbeki continue to hold significant respect across the continent due to their remarkable contributions, both during and after their presidencies,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor also disclosed that he reconnected with former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, during his meeting with Mbeki.
According to Obi, Fayemi delivered the keynote address at the Thabo Mbeki Africa Day Lecture, where discussions centred on rebuilding African unity and strengthening institutions across the continent.
The event was organised by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation.

Obi’s visit comes amid growing conversations around regional cooperation, migration, and economic integration within Africa.
