A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged President Bola Tinubu to concentrate on governance and emerging security challenges rather than what he described as opposition attempts to distract the administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oyintiloye, a former Osun State lawmaker, made the call in Osogbo on Sunday amid recent security alerts and concerns over threats to vulnerable locations in parts of the country.

He called for stronger surveillance, improved intelligence gathering and greater cooperation among security agencies, arguing that preventive measures should receive urgent attention as the country moves closer to another election cycle.

CALL FOR STRONGER SECURITY AROUND PUBLIC PLACES

Oyintiloye specifically called for increased vigilance around schools, places of worship, National Youth Service Corps facilities, motor parks and other locations considered vulnerable.

His comments come days after the Osun State Government approved the establishment of a Joint Security Task Force following recent security alerts. The state also placed security agencies on heightened alert and urged residents, religious institutions and schools to strengthen vigilance.

Oyintiloye said security agencies should strengthen intelligence sharing and rapid-response arrangements while receiving adequate training, equipment and other resources needed to respond to threats.

He also urged state governors and local government authorities to support security operations within their jurisdictions, particularly by strengthening intelligence gathering at the grassroots.

DEMANDS PROBE OF OSUN VIOLENCE

The APC chieftain also called for a thorough and transparent investigation into recent killings and political violence in Osun State.

He said individuals found through credible evidence to have participated in, sponsored or facilitated violence should face prosecution in accordance with the law.

Osun has witnessed recent security concerns, including violence linked to disputes around motor parks. Governor Ademola Adeleke recently ordered the arrest of suspects following the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, and directed the reintroduction of a park management system.

Oyintiloye appealed to transport workers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information capable of assisting investigations and preventing further violence.

‘FOCUS ON GOVERNANCE’

Turning to the political contest ahead of 2027, Oyintiloye urged Tinubu not to allow exchanges with opposition politicians to divert attention from governance.

The appeal represents Oyintiloye’s political position as an APC member. Opposition parties and politicians have continued to scrutinise and challenge the Tinubu administration as political alignments intensify ahead of the next general elections.

Oyintiloye argued that Nigeria’s economic and social development depends significantly on a stable security environment, saying investment, infrastructure and public services would be difficult to sustain where insecurity persists.

He called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, while urging authorities at federal, state and local levels to prioritise the protection of lives and property.
