Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has pledged to strengthen local government autonomy and prioritise infrastructure and economic development in border communities if elected governor in 2027.

Adebutu pledged at a campaign rally in Remo, where he outlined aspects of his Itura De agenda, which he said would focus on grassroots empowerment, community development and improved access to government services.

He argued that local governments should have greater authority to identify development needs, determine priorities and implement projects that directly benefit residents.

According to him, meaningful autonomy would enable local councils to respond more effectively to challenges affecting their communities.

“Local governments must be empowered to address the needs of their people and determine the development priorities of their communities,” Adebutu said.

He maintained that governance should produce visible improvements in people’s living conditions, particularly at the grassroots.

The PDP candidate also identified Ogun State’s border communities as important areas for economic expansion, promising targeted investments in infrastructure, commerce and employment opportunities.

He said Ogun’s proximity to Lagos presented opportunities for increased trade, business development and investment, which his proposed administration would seek to maximise.

Adebutu argued that improved transportation networks and strategic economic planning could attract businesses, strengthen commercial activities and create employment opportunities for residents of communities bordering Lagos.

He said his development agenda would seek to ensure that communities outside major urban centres benefit from government investments.

Meanwhile, the PDP senatorial candidate for Ogun East, Abdul-Hameed Femi Omotayo, called for greater attention to infrastructure and economic development across the senatorial district.

Speaking at the rally, Omotayo criticised what he described as inadequate development in Sagamu, following a recent visit to the town.

He accused the current administration of failing to deliver sufficient improvements, saying residents deserved better infrastructure and economic opportunities.

Omotayo also expressed concern over unemployment and challenges affecting businesses, particularly opportunities available to young people.

He maintained that development should be assessed through measurable improvements in roads, commercial activities, employment and the general welfare of residents.

The senatorial candidate urged greater emphasis on practical projects that would support businesses and improve economic conditions across Ogun East.

The statements form part of the PDP candidates’ campaign proposals ahead of the 2027 elections. The proposed policies remain commitments by the candidates and would depend on their election and subsequent implementation.
