Leader of the Njiko Igbo Forum, Rev. Dr Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, has warned that Nigeria’s 2027 general election could be jeopardised if former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is excluded from the presidential ballot.
Obioha made the remarks while reacting to the Federal High Court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja ruled that the court’s earlier judgment compelling INEC to register the NDC affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which claimed ownership of the logo adopted by the NDC.
Speaking on the development, Obioha expressed concern over what he described as declining public confidence in the judiciary, alleging that inconsistent court decisions had weakened trust in the institution.
He also accused the current administration of influencing the judiciary and undermining its independence.

Obioha maintained that Peter Obi must be allowed to participate in the 2027 presidential election, warning that preventing him from appearing on the ballot could undermine the credibility and conduct of the polls.
He described his comments as a warning and urged relevant institutions to protect Nigeria’s democratic process.
