Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, directing members to immediately begin consultations and grassroots mobilisation across the state.
The council, chaired by Abiodun, is expected to coordinate the APC’s campaigns across Ogun’s 20 local government areas, 236 wards and polling units ahead of the presidential, governorship and legislative elections.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abeokuta on Thursday, Abiodun said the party must move beyond organisational structures and establish sustained engagement with voters at community level.
He charged the council to campaign for President Bola Tinubu, Ogun APC governorship candidate Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, his running mate Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, and the party’s candidates for the National and State Assemblies.
Abiodun said electoral success required deliberate preparation, organisation and sustained voter engagement rather than relying solely on political reputation or large campaign gatherings.
He directed campaign officials to engage residents in communities, markets, farms, workplaces, religious organisations, professional associations and neighbourhoods while listening to voters’ concerns.
ABIODUN WARNS AGAINST INTERNAL DIVISIONS
The governor also urged APC members to maintain unity and discipline, warning against factionalism, indiscipline and sabotage within the campaign structure.
He said the campaign should focus on issues, the administration’s record and the party’s proposals while avoiding insults, violence and intimidation.
Abiodun tasked the council with communicating his administration’s record in infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, security and investment promotion.
He also cited the Gateway International Airport as part of the state government’s broader development programme and urged campaign officials to respond to what the party considers misinformation with facts and clarity.
ADEOLA CALLS FOR INCLUSIVE CAMPAIGN
Adeola, the APC governorship candidate, urged party members to treat the election campaign as a collective responsibility and said members who were not appointed to the council remained part of the party’s mobilisation structure.
He called for sustained consultations across wards and local government areas and said his campaign would focus on policies and projects affecting residents.
Former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba also urged aggrieved APC members to reconcile their differences and work collectively for the party ahead of the elections.
The campaign council is led by Abiodun, with Senator Lekan Mustapha serving as Director-General. Adeola is a senior member of the campaign leadership structure.
Following the inauguration, Abiodun directed the council and its committees to begin campaign activities and grassroots engagement immediately.
