Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his disappointment after his side settled for a 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.
The Portuguese skipper was unable to add to his impressive international scoring record as Portugal dropped points in their first Group stage encounter in Houston.
Portugal appeared to be on course for victory after Joao Neves opened the scoring, but DR Congo responded before the break through Yohan Wissa, who headed home the equaliser to ensure both teams shared the spoils.

Ronaldo, who played the full 90 minutes, struggled to make a significant impact in front of goal and was limited to a couple of efforts throughout the match.
Reacting after the game, the 41-year-old acknowledged the disappointing result but insisted that Portugal remains focused on the challenges ahead.
“It’s not the start we wanted, but this is far from over. Focus on the next game,” Ronaldo wrote on his social media platforms.
The draw leaves Portugal with work to do in the group, with their next fixture scheduled against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
Portugal will be aiming to secure all three points in that encounter as they continue their quest for World Cup glory.
