Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Professor Antonia Simbine, has urged newly recruited staff of the institute to demonstrate innovation, diligence, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Simbine gave the charge while declaring open a two-day orientation programme for newly employed research and non-research staff of the institute.

Addressing the participants, the NISER boss congratulated the new employees on their successful recruitment, noting that they emerged from a highly competitive selection process involving thousands of applicants.

According to her, the successful candidates distinguished themselves through outstanding performances in written examinations, oral interviews, and presentation exercises.

She described their appointments as a call to national service and encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to the institute’s mandate of providing evidence-based research to support policy formulation and national development.

“NISER occupies a unique place in Nigeria’s political and economic ecosystem because of its social and economic research, which has helped the Federal Government navigate economic challenges over the years,” she said.

Simbine noted that the orientation programme marked the beginning of the employees’ professional journey within the Federal Civil Service and expressed optimism that they would build rewarding careers while contributing to the institute’s growth.

Also speaking, NISER’s Director of Administration, Mr E. Udofia, urged the new staff to dedicate their intellect, time, and character to the service of both the institute and the nation.

He emphasised the importance of professionalism, warning against absenteeism, indiscipline, and negative attitudes toward supervisors and colleagues.

The orientation programme featured presentations on the evolution and structure of NISER, organisational behaviour, public service ethics, financial regulations, career progression, official communication, retirement planning, health matters, and workplace security.

Heads of various departments, including the Research Management Department, Human Capital Policy Department, and Political and Governance Policy Department, advised the new employees to cultivate strong reading and research habits to excel in their roles.

They stressed that research, writing, and continuous learning remain central to NISER’s mission of promoting Nigeria’s socio-economic development through policy-oriented studies.

Speaking on behalf of the new employees, Dr Friday Uko commended the institute’s management for organising the orientation programme and praised the Director-General for her commitment to staff welfare and institutional development.

The event was attended by members of NISER’s management team, administrative officials, and the newly recruited staff. NISER DG Charges Newly Recruited Staff on Innovation, Diligence
