The Yobe State Police Command has rescued an abandoned newborn baby girl and arrested two suspected motorcycle thieves in separate operations across the state.

The command said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing and tackle criminal activities in Yobe.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the abandoned baby was discovered in Kallalawa Village, Damaturu, on May 25, 2026.

According to the statement, operatives attached to A Division, Damaturu, rescued the infant, believed to be about one day old, after she was found abandoned in the community.

The baby was immediately taken to the Special Baby Care Unit of the Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, where medical personnel confirmed she was stable.

Police said the child had since been handed over to the Social Welfare Department for care, while investigations were ongoing to identify the mother and the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.

In another operation, the command arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Yusai Mamman, in connection with the theft of a red KASEA motorcycle.

The motorcycle was reportedly stolen along Gwiokura Road after its owner, a resident of Kaliyari Fulani Settlement in Bursari Local Government Area, parked it near a shop.

Police said the suspect was later intercepted while riding the stolen motorcycle along Jakusko Road.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing the motorcycle. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court upon completion,” the statement said.

Similarly, operatives attached to the Fika Division arrested another suspect, Mohammed Garba of Bursali Village in Gulani Local Government Area, over the theft of a red Boxer motorcycle valued at N400,000.

The police explained that the victim had transported a passenger from Maiduwa Village to Ngalda Town on May 23 when the suspect allegedly stole the motorcycle.

The command credited the arrest to swift information sharing among security agencies and support from local vigilante groups.

Police said the complainant identified the suspect, who also confessed to the crime.

Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin, directed officers to sustain the ongoing crackdown on criminal activities and commended residents and vigilante groups for supporting security operations across the state.
