The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has appointed a retired civil servant, Onsachi Idris, as Senior Special Assistant on Procurement.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced shortly after Idris retired from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on April 24, 2026.

Idris brings over three decades of experience in public service, spanning administration, finance and procurement. Before his retirement, he served as Director of Procurement in the FCTA, a position he assumed in 2021.

He had earlier held the role of Director of Common Services (Procurement) since 2019, where he was actively involved in supervising procurement processes and ensuring compliance with extant regulations within the administration.

The appointment underscores the minister’s reliance on experienced technocrats to manage critical aspects of the FCT’s administration, particularly in areas requiring institutional knowledge and regulatory oversight.

Wike, who has served as FCT minister since 2023, has in recent months made several strategic appointments aimed at strengthening governance structures in the capital territory.

Idris is expected to support procurement operations in the FCTA, a key unit responsible for the execution of government projects and contract processes.
