The United States economy recorded stronger-than-expected job growth in August, adding 162,000 jobs as the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1 per cent, according to data released by the Bureau of Labour Statistics.

The latest figures exceeded economists’ expectations, with forecasts predicting a gain of about 65,000 jobs and a slight increase in the unemployment rate to 4.2 per cent.

The August employment increase marked a significant rebound after weaker labour market performance in previous months, with sectors including food services, local government education, manufacturing and healthcare recording employment gains.

Despite continued concerns over inflation, borrowing costs and global economic uncertainties, the latest figures indicate that the US labour market has maintained resilience. Analysts said the report could influence discussions at the Federal Reserve over future interest rate decisions.

The unemployment rate remained steady, while the number of unemployed people showed little change, reflecting a relatively stable labour market environment.

Economic analysts said the stronger-than-expected job growth provides fresh insight into the strength of consumer demand and business activity in the world’s largest economy.
