British authorities have charged a serving member of the Royal Navy with national security offences over allegations that he obtained classified or protected information intended to benefit an unidentified foreign power.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Teddy Young, faces two charges under the United Kingdom’s National Security Act 2023.

According to British police, the charges relate to allegedly obtaining protected information and preparing to transfer information for the benefit of a foreign power.

Investigators alleged that Young obtained, copied, recorded or retained protected information between November 2024 and May 2025 with the intention of benefiting a foreign government or organisation.

The authorities have not disclosed the identity of the foreign power allegedly involved or the nature of the information at the centre of the investigation.

Young was reportedly arrested at his residence in Bedfordshire on Tuesday before being transferred into police custody in London.

He was scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to face the charges.

Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, described the allegations as serious, particularly because they concern a serving member of the British armed forces.

Flanagan said counterterrorism investigators had worked closely with the Ministry of Defence throughout the investigation to identify and address potential national security risks.

The police also clarified that the investigation was unrelated to a separate security incident at RAF Fairford, a British military airbase used by United States forces.

The clarification followed heightened security concerns surrounding military installations in Britain amid international tensions.

Authorities have not released further details about the alleged foreign connections or whether additional individuals are being investigated.

The charges remain allegations, and Young is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
