United States President, Donald Trump, has threatened further military action against Iran if it fails to restrain the activities of Hezbollah in Lebanon, even as peace negotiations between senior American and Iranian officials commenced in Switzerland.
Trump issued the warning on Sunday through a post on his Truth Social platform, accusing Iran of backing Hezbollah and fueling instability in Lebanon.
“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid proxies in Lebanon from causing trouble,” Trump wrote. “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder.”

The warning comes amid renewed tensions in southern Lebanon, where recent clashes between the Israeli military and Hezbollah have raised concerns about the durability of a preliminary peace agreement reached between Washington and Tehran.
According to reports, Israeli airstrikes on Saturday killed at least 30 people in eastern and southern Lebanon before hostilities eased later in the day following orders for Israeli forces to halt military operations against Hezbollah.
The memorandum of understanding signed earlier this week between the United States and Iran reportedly provides for a cessation of hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, making the latest violence a potential threat to ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Speaking at the opening of talks in Switzerland, United States Vice President, JD Vance, expressed optimism about developments in Lebanon, saying significant progress had been made in maintaining the ceasefire.

“We’re all working towards regional peace,” Vance said. “I actually feel great about where we are in Lebanon. There’s still some additional work to be done, but we’re going to keep on working at it.”
He also maintained that the Trump administration had played a leading role in efforts to de-escalate the conflict in Lebanon and promote stability in the region.
According to the report, the ongoing negotiations in Switzerland are expected to focus on strengthening the ceasefire arrangement and preventing further escalation of tensions between Iran, Israel, and regional armed groups.
