United States President, Donald Trump has maintained that efforts to secure a peace agreement in the Middle East remain on course despite renewed hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah that resulted in casualties in Beirut.

In a statement shared on social media on Sunday, Trump expressed optimism that negotiations were nearing a breakthrough capable of promoting stability across the region, including Lebanon.

According to the US leader, all parties involved should exercise restraint to avoid jeopardising what he described as a significant opportunity for lasting peace.

His comments followed Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, which reportedly left three people dead. Israeli authorities said the operation was carried out in response to attacks launched by Hezbollah against northern Israel.

Trump criticised the escalation, stating that the strikes should not have occurred, particularly at a time when diplomatic efforts were reportedly making progress. He stressed that neither Israel nor Hezbollah should engage in further military actions that could undermine ongoing negotiations.

The President reiterated his belief that a regional agreement remains within reach and suggested that the current moment could mark the beginning of a more stable and peaceful era for the Middle East if all sides commit to de-escalation.

While Trump had previously indicated that a framework agreement could be finalised on Sunday, he stopped short of confirming that any formal signing had taken place.
