Troops of Operation Hadin Kai – under Sector 2 have foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in the North-East, killing at least 24 insurgents and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.
This was contained in a released issued by the Media Information Officer, SANI UBA, Lieutenant Colonel on Thursday 23 April, 2026.
The attack, which began shortly after midnight on Thursday and lasted until about 3:00 a.m., was met with a swift and coordinated response from the troops.

Military sources said the soldiers executed a combined offensive and defensive operation that successfully contained the assault and forced the attackers into a disorganised retreat.
During the engagement, the troops inflicted heavy losses on the insurgents. A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of weapons including 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, three Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, and two mortar tubes. Other items recovered include hand grenades, magazines, and large quantities of ammunition.
The military confirmed that two personnel were wounded in action and have since been stabilised. An armoured vehicle deployed as reinforcement was also damaged during the exchange, with its tyres blown out.
Sources within the operation said exploitation efforts are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and recover additional weapons and bodies along their withdrawal routes, where traces of blood and medical supplies were reportedly found.
The Joint Task Force described the outcome as a demonstration of the troops’ resilience and operational effectiveness, noting that sustained pressure would be maintained to deny terrorist groups freedom of action across the theatre.

Operation Hadin Kai has continued its intensified campaign against insurgent groups in the North-East, with renewed focus on disrupting attacks and reclaiming affected communities.
