Troops of the 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted a suspected terrorist attack in Zamfara State, recovering weapons, motorcycles and other items believed to have been intended for criminal operations.
According to security sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence indicating that armed suspects were advancing towards Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area.
Acting on the intelligence, troops reportedly deployed along the suspects’ anticipated route and set an ambush to intercept them before they reached their target.

The sources said the soldiers engaged the suspects upon sighting them, unleashing sustained fire that forced the group to abandon its mission and retreat into nearby areas.
Items recovered during the operation included a PKT machine gun, ammunition, two motorcycles, chains believed to have been intended for use on abducted victims, and eight sets of military uniforms.
Security officials expressed concern over the recovered military attire, noting that the suspects may have intended to use the uniforms to impersonate security personnel during the planned attack.
The successful interception is being viewed as another example of the effectiveness of intelligence-driven military operations in tackling insecurity across the North-West region.

Military authorities said follow-up operations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects while preventing any further threats to communities in the area.
The Armed Forces also reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups and other criminal elements operating across the region as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security.
