Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified offensive operations against terrorists and criminal elements in Katsina State, recording major successes across several local government areas.

The operations, conducted on May 9, 2026, covered Matazu, Musawa, Kankia, Dutsin-Ma and Malumfashi local government areas.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of the 171 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA acted on credible intelligence regarding fleeing terrorists from recent military operations in Dikawa.

The troops reportedly laid an ambush along the Matazu–Dutsin-Ma axis, leading to a firefight during which three terrorists were neutralised.

Items recovered from the suspects included two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, one motorcycle, three cutlasses and assorted charms.

In a related operation, troops supported by members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps carried out clearance operations on terrorist hideouts in Torcachi, Giginya and Tashar Ganji villages within Matazu, Musawa and Kankia local government areas.

The military said the terrorists fled their camps due to sustained pressure from troops, while 175 rustled livestock were recovered during the operation.

The recovered animals are currently in military custody pending handover to the relevant local authorities in Matazu Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, troops of FOB Malumfashi, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), also conducted a raid at Kauyan Dawo in Malumfashi Local Government Area.

The operation led to the arrest of six suspected drug peddlers identified as Sani Rabiu, Umar Nasiru, Abulkubus Aminu, Abdullahi Halilu, Abubakar Rabiu and Abubakar Dahiru.

Recovered substances included 82.5 grams of suspected Cannabis Sativa, 15.7 grams of Exol-5 and 1.8 grams of D5.

The suspects and the seized substances have been handed over to the NDLEA Malumfashi Area Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against terrorism and criminality in the North West and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
