Troops of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have foiled an attack by suspected armed herders in Azege Village, Tombo Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The troops responded to a distress call on Monday, August 10, 2026, reporting an attack on the community and engaged the suspected attackers in a gun battle upon arrival.
The assailants reportedly fled after being overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower.

During a follow-up operation, troops discovered one of the suspected attackers neutralised and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 16 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and a Nokia mobile phone.
The Police evacuated the remains, while security forces continued efforts to track and apprehend other fleeing members of the group.
Operation WHIRL STROKE commended the troops and the Police for their collaboration and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
