Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have uncovered two illegal arms manufacturing factories in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, arresting five suspects and recovering a cache of weapons and industrial equipment.

The raid was carried out on Thursday, May 7, by troops of the Quick Response Force (QRF) as part of ongoing operations aimed at disrupting the supply of illicit firearms and improving security within the Joint Operations Area.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the operation followed intensified intelligence gathering and strategic surveillance that led troops to the clandestine factories.

The statement said the suspects were arrested while allegedly fabricating weapons at the sites.

Items recovered during the operation include nine fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, four empty AK-47 magazines, seven skeletal AK-47 rifles and 10 rifle butts.

Troops also recovered 36 empty shells of 7.62mm special ammunition, four revolver engines, 14 recoiling springs, six hand drilling machines, nine filing machines, four welding machines and other industrial equipment.

The military said the suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in custody for further investigation and exploitation.

Operation ENDURING PEACE added that troops are continuing covert operations to track and recover arms and ammunition already in circulation.

The task force commended residents for supporting security operations and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
